The Best Pasta-Making Classes in Tuscany – My Wish List

When I was living in the United States, before ever having visited Italy, I always associated pasta with the boot-shaped country of Italy. I am sure most people do, as Italy produces incredible pasta and has hundreds of varieties. I have found that there is little better than freshly made pasta may it be delivered to your table at a restaurant or created by your own hands.

I have only had the luxury of attending one pasta-making class when a friend visited us from the US. It was an evening class in Florence where we made three different types of fresh pasta followed by enjoying them with different freshly prepared sauces.

Pasta is surprisingly simple when it comes to ingredients. Flour and eggs. That’s it. The tricky part is getting the correct ratio and working the dough followed by rolling it to the perfect thickness.

Of course, there are numerous pasta-making machines, but to get a truly authentic experience, one must go through the process of rolling it out by hand. Or at least that is what we did in the class I took.

There are many pasta opportunities I would love to try throughout Tuscany and I would like to share them with you. It is easy to find classes offered on sites such as Get Your Guide and Airbnb Experiences. Some experiences include pasta-making classes that begin with visiting local markets to collect fresh ingredients. Some are more luxurious and located in secluded villas.

You can cook in the kitchen of a local in a small or private group or you can take a more general class. There is truly a pasta-making class in Tuscany that will fit everyone’s budget, time restraints, and general accessibility.

The following pasta-making classes are on my pasta-making bucket list.

Pasta-making classes in Tuscany

I am going to highlight just an itty-bitty sampling of classes offered throughout Tuscany. Some require a car to get to (which I don’t have) while others are located in larger train-accessible villages and cities. There are pasta-making classes that I have wanted to take and I am going to share them with you.

Chef For a Day at Magida

Located in the small village of Montalcino, Magida offers a pasta masterclass. You get the chance to make not only 3 different types of pasta but also 3 different types of sauces.

The day begins with a tour of the castle (how cool is that?!) and after creating your culinary masterpieces, you will enjoy your meal on the castle terrace. Wine is also provided, which is made from grapes grown in the castle’s vineyard. Local cheeses and salami will accompany your meal along with a stunning view.

The chef will regale you with information on the local ingredients as well as with the history of the area.

The classes start at €180 euros

I truly hope to one day be able to attend this class.

Juls’ Kitchen Cooking Classes

Nestled in the Tuscan countryside between Siena and Florence, the kitchen studio makes for a pleasant place to partake in a cooking class from a Tuscan chef. Although it is only accessible by car, I would love to one day be able to attend one of Juls’ classes.

The cooking classes are not specifically for pasta-making, but that is part of the experience. You can join in on collecting ingredients for the meal or go straight to the kitchen. Upon request, vegetarian options can be prepared for the meal which consists of an appetizer, first course, second course, side dishes, and a dessert.

The class that excludes the market visit will take around 6 hours during which you will learn to make a great variety of traditional dishes. The class size is also small with a maximum number of 6 participants. This gives a much more intimate experience with the instructor. You will even go home with a custom apron!

Juls is a food blogger and photographer that has been featured in many popular publications such as the Huffington Post and jamieoliver.com. She also hosts a podcast with her husband: Cooking With an Italian Accent. Because of her vast knowledge and because she’s a fellow blogger, I am very excited at the prospect of one day meeting Juls and learning from her.
